The Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor: Martin Leonard

Posted by on

Details

The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) is a ligand activated transcription factor, induced by planar aromatic hydrocarbons to regulate the expression of genes mainly involved in chemical detoxification (e.g. CYP1A1, ALDH3A1).

It has also been recently identified that its activation plays a key role in how these chemicals can modify the immune system and cause immunotoxicity.
