Iodine Supplement Warnings

www.safeusesofiodine.com/iodoplus. Iodine and iodide are essential for health but in mega doses can cause severe, unfavorable conditions related primarily to the thyroid.
Contrary to Dr. Brownstein’s recommendations for using Iodoral, Dr. Alexander Haskell’s clinical experience has shown that iodine and iodide consumers must use caution when using mega doses and should preferably be followed by a physician familiar with the possible side effects and dangers.
Dr. Haskell is a true believer in the benefits of these two trace minerals as well as selenium for hypothyroidism, breast cancer, fibrocystic breasts, ovarian and prostate issues and various other chronic diseases. Yet he believes that most of the time the low, safe and effective dose of 3mgs rather than the 12.5mg is sufficient.
There are exceptions, of course, but this higher dosing of 12.5, 25 and 50mg found in Iodoral should be monitored by a physician.
Iodine and iodide deficiency is a rampant epidemic and Dr. Brownstein has certainly helped to make the public more aware of this.
The origin of Hashimotos is also often due to an iodide deficiency yet once this condition appears these two trace minerals must be avoided until the antibodies decline to with the normal range.
What is the safe and effective dose?
The recent research of 2011 focusing on these two trace minerals and the lowered breast cancer rate of the Japanese women population is suggesting that a more reasonable, safe and effective dose is between 1-3 mgs of the combination of these two trace minerals.
Dr. Haskell agrees that for the general population not being followed by a physician that this 1-3mg dose is safe and effective and has thus formulated IodoPlus which also includes selenium.
Selenium is essential for the production of thyroid hormones and for protecting our thyroid cells from excess iodide.
