First the Monsanto Protection Act, now THIS!

I know the system is a broken piece of corporatist trash, but it won’t hurt to try. Activists are part of what is putting the Monsanto Protection Act on the chopping block! Maybe we can get this stopped too.

Threw this vid together because I could not believe it (or, sadly, I could…) The EPA actually ruled in our favor on something for once. They decided to withdraw tolerances for Dow Chemical’s sulfuryl fluoride — a pesticide they are allowed to fumigate the U.S. food supply with once it is at the warehouse/storage facilities — back in January 2011.

This stuff breaks down to an inorganic fluoride compound that is just one more added dose of fluoride the American people get along with what’s already in toothpaste, deliberately added to the water and grown into many of the foods we eat with that same water. It’s been shown to cause numerous detrimental health effects including neurological damage. The label on the stuff actually says, “Do not expose to non-target organisms. This pesticide is toxic to fish and wildlife.”

Because, apparently, we need even MORE pesticides sprayed all over our food in this country! Come ON! The U.S. and Australia are the only two nations that even still legally allow this crap to be sprayed in a place while food is still on the premises!

This chemical is all set to be phased out three years from January 2011, but now that the clock is finally winding down on this poison being removed from our food, Dow isn’t having it. Reportedly, the chemical company tried to get something written into the latest farm bill to get out of it too, but when that didn’t work, apparently they have now used their Big Agra lobbying power to get a rider slipped into the 2014 House Appropriations Bill.

Curiously, Section 449 in that bill basically says the EPA CANNOT stop this stuff from being used! Read for yourself below. It’s dirty handed and despicable. Please at least contact your representative.
