Healing Colitis, Crohn’s Disease, Irritable Bowel, Acid Reflux and Other Digestive Disorders

The digestive system can be disrupted by disease, diet, and emotional stress. Common digestive problems such as acid reflux/GERD, Crohn’s disease, colitis and irritable bowel syndrome cause billions of people worldwide to suffer daily and diminish the quality of life. Digestive issues often result in symptoms such as bloating, diarrhea, gas, stomach pain, and stomach cramps.
We all suffer cuts, scrapes and bruises from time to time. The innate healing intelligence that resides within our body-mind facilitates the healing of these injuries. This same healing intelligence can help to alleviate the symptoms associated with colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and other digestive diseases and facilitate healing of the digestive tract.
There are four basic steps to this practice:
1. Begin by noticing how you feel within your abdominal region
2. Focus all your attention in the middle of the discomfort
3. Breathe softly and deeply with your attention fully immersed within the feelings and sensations
4. Continue to follow the feelings and sensations as they go through their progression
Cultivating health is an ongoing process. I recommend that those of you who are suffering from digestive issues do fifteen to twenty minutes of practice if that’s all the time you have. You will get much better results when you practice between forty-five minutes to an hour on a daily basis.
Those who have spent most of their lives disconnecting from their feelings may not experience much feeling or sensation in the beginning. Continue to focus your attention within the abdominal region while breathing softly and deeply. It may take a few days or weeks of practice for the range of feeling sensitivity to open up. The feelings and sensations will gradually become more accessible as you continue to work with this practice.
Your intestines may initially feel heavy, congested, tense, toxic or inflamed when you first begin to work with this practice. You may experience pain, nausea or other discomforts at times. Bloating may initially intensify and you may also experience gas, rumbling and churning. This is all a normal part of the process that takes place as our body mind intelligence begins to heal the internal organs and cleanse them of toxicity.
Your intestines will gradually feel more vital and alive as they begin to heal. The feelings and sensations usually become more pleasant over time. You may experience warmth, pulsing, tingling and other pleasant sensations.
Feelings and imagery will also surface as a result of working with this practice. Be sure to breathe into any feelings that arise. Breathing into the feelings will help you to process the conflicted emotions and issues that are often the underlying source of many digestive issues.
There are many added benefits to working consistently with this practice. Digestion usually improves. You will become more firmly rooted in your body. Your intuition will grow stronger. You will also develop the instinctual awareness that will give you a clearer sense of purpose and direction in life.
Not all digestive issues will respond to this form of practice. I encourage those of you who are suffering from chronic abdominal distress to consult with a physician to rule out the possibility of colon cancer or bacterial infections such as h-pylori.
