Arthritis

Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis. This condition is caused when the cartilage in the joints is damaged or wears down.

Symptoms to look for:

• Inflammation
• Pain
• Swelling
• Stiffness
• Immobility

Causes:

• Damage of cartilage in joints

Food groups to consume in arthritis:

1. Calcium: It is essential for the prevention of bone loss

Foods to consume: Low fat milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, sprouts, finger millet, sesame seeds, almonds and soy beans

2. Omega 3 fatty acids: Reduces pain & inflammation

Foods to consume: Fish, flax seeds and walnuts

Recipes based on the above food groups:

Recipe 1: Cottage Cheese Snack

Take ½ cup low fat cottage cheese cut into small cubes

1. In a pan, add 1 tsp oil& spread it well
2. Shallow fry the cubes till they turn golden brown
3. Remove and keep them aside
4. Then again add 1 tsp oil in the pan
5. Put ½ tsp grated ginger, sauté it for 1 min
6. Then, add 2 tbsp peas
7.Cook this for for 5-8 minutes
8. Now, add the cottage cheese cubes along with 2 finely
chopped green chilies
9. Add a pinch of black salt, pinch of jeera powder or cumin
powder, some amchur, also known as dry mango powder.
Instead of these spices you may add chaat masala which is
made using a mix of these spices & gives a great tangy taste
10. Add 1 tsp lemon juice and some salt for taste
11. Mix well, garnish it with chopped coriander leaves and s
12. Serve hot

Recipe 2: Apple soy milk

1. Peel and chop 1 apple in a blender
2. Add ½ cup chilled soy milk
3. ½ cup chilled low fat milk
4. Now add ½ tsp cinnamon powder and sugar to taste
5. Blend this and serve chilled

This drink is rich in calcium which strengthens the bones

• Avoid fried & refined foods
• Use more of ginger & turmeric
• Bathe in the early morning sun
