When a person experiences drastic and dangerous mood swings many professionals are quick to label these symptoms as Bipolar Disorder. However, studies and theories have surfaced that suggest that in many of these cases the affected are not necessarily bipolar but experiencing breaks in reality that strongly resemble bipolar disorder. “Bipolar Breaks” is a term being coined by doctors and therapists that describes such events. What causes these events? Some, including therapist Dr. Stephen Wright, believe that these episodes are often brought on by regular Marijuana consumption. Why does this matter to you? This theory brings to light that Marijuana is not as safe or harmless as society has thought up to this point. If regular smoking habits can create symptoms that mimic a very serious and often deadly mental disorder then it is about time that we, as individuals, re-evaluate our thoughts about consuming Marijuana. Everybody’s body works and behaves differently. It’s safe to say that some people get lucky and can simply consume Marijuana with minimal side-effects, but is diving blindly into regular consumption without foresight a gamble you would be willing to take? I’d hope not. Take a good hard look at yourself and your family history in regards to bipolar and other mental illnesses to spare yourself the potential disasters that bipolar breaks can convene.
