EIGHT PEOPLE WHO ARE CHANGING THE WORLD –
ARSENIC REMOVAL FROM WATER – PRIZE WINNER 2010
Guest Speaker -Bhaskar Sen Gupta

As part of a free programme of public events to celebrate the 15th anniversary of The St Andrews Prize for the Environment, eight former winners gathered on Tuesday 29 April 2014 to present their award-winning projects.

A new method of removing arsenic from groundwater, without using chemicals, was pioneered by Bhaskar Sen Gupta and a team from Queen’s University, Belfast.

With around 137 million people in 70 countries drinking arsenic-contaminated water, the team addressed the alarming levels of arsenic in West Bengal and established operations in rural areas, which now supply clean and arsenic free water to the local populations.

This life changing technology is easy to install and operate and can be set up locally with readily available components.
